Innovative Dean's Scholars Program

A pathway for recent under represented persons (URP) PhD graduates to faculty positions

Dean Gerson has announced the launch of the Dean’s Scholars Program, an innovative effort to attract recent PhD graduates to accelerate their career trajectories as well as expand the diversity of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine faculty. The Dean’s Scholars Program is designed to support the recruitment, retention, and promotion of fellows to tenure-track faculty positions at CWRU.

The Dean’s Scholars Program supports a five-year post-doctoral training program that provides educational and research resources for advancement to tenure-track faculty positions within the School of Medicine.

The program provides a direct path for increasing and sustaining diversity in the academic workforce at CWRU, while providing an inclusive environment to encourage under represented persons (URP) to begin or continue their training at CWRU.

Attracting top talent from CWRU and peer institutions for their postdoctoral and career development training, it provides recent PhD graduates with the necessary institutional support to recruit and promote outstanding scholars into the ranks of tenure-track faculty and to ensure success as independent research careers at CWRU are established.

Highlights of the program included additional financial support over and above the NIH stipend standards of $5,000 for the first three years (Step 1) and $10,000 for years 4 and 5 (Step 2). The program will also provide the scholar with additional funds for the laboratory ($15,000 annually for Step 1 and $40,000 annually for Step 2).

The RFA is available for those interested in learning more about the Dean's Scholars Program.
