Join the Department of Classics to celebrate Vergil Week April 16-22

The Department of Classics will hold its annual Vergil Week celebration April 16-22. The event, held every year in April to coincide with National Poetry Month, highlights the poetry, life and times of Publius Vergilius Maro, who was better known as Vergil and widely considered ancient Rome’s greatest poet. Events during the week include:

• A 5K group run,
• An art contest,
• A Latin recitation contest for high school and university students,
• A 12-hour continuous public reading of the Aeneid in English, and
• A public lecture by Ralph Hexter, University of California, Davis provost and professor.

Hexter’s lecture, held Friday, April 22, at 4 p.m. in Clark Hall, Room 206, is titled “Vergil’s Aeneid and the Movement of Peoples .” To learn more about these and other events throughout the week, visit classics.case.edu/vergil-week/2016events/.
