Jury recommends life sentences for Somali pirates
Associated Press: Michael Scharf, associate dean for Global Legal Studies, discussed a jury’s recommendation that Somali pirates be sentenced to life in prison in the killings of four Americans. “The U.S. sought the ultimate punishment ... to send the strongest possible signal. That the jury returned a life sentence instead may blunt that somewhat,” Scharf said.
