On Thursday, Jan. 24, pediatric sports injury specialists and School of Medicine faculty members Susannah Briskin, Amanda Weiss-Kelly and Mary Solomon will present “Lessons from the Playing Field: The Impact and Scope of Childhood Sports Injuries” as part of the Schubert Conversations on Children in Research, Policy, and Practice seminar series. Community respondents will be Jim Doyle, director of athletics at Hawken School, and Beth Tsvetkoff, executive director of the Ohio Alliance of YMCAs. The event will take place from 4:30 to 5:45 p.m. in the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Community Studies Center, room 115.
The talk will address relevant issues, including recent injury trends, common concussion symptoms and a review of HB 143 and its implications for parents, coaches and future policy efforts.
Schubert Conversations on Children in Research, Policy and Practice are monthly seminars featuring cutting-edge research by CWRU faculty, with corresponding commentary by local professionals. These events stimulate an ongoing dialogue about child-related research, policy, and practice among faculty, students, policy experts, advocates, and professionals from Northeast Ohio. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.
