Learn AI-augmented coding for data analysis

ECON 216: Data Visualization for Social Science with AI-Augmented Coding & Analysis introduces a new way to work with data using AI tools.

In the course, students use AI coding agents like Claude Code to generate code by giving instructions in plain English. The focus is on reading and checking that code, catching errors and interpreting results rather than writing everything from scratch.

Students work with real datasets on topics like economic inequality, immigration, housing, public health and political attitudes. The course also covers data wrangling and visualization, ending with a group scientific poster presented at fall Intersections.

No prior coding experience is required. The course emphasizes understanding what questions to ask and how to interpret results, with AI handling much of the coding process.
