Lunar New Year Celebration

The 2018 Case Western Reserve University Lunar New Year Celebration will be Friday, Feb. 16, from 8 to 9 p.m. in Tinkham Veale University Center. Enjoy popular Asian snacks, green tea and hot chocolate to keep warm and watch the fireworks as they set off in Wade Oval at 8:45 p.m.

Event details

Come early and bring your CWRU ID; the first 300 students will get a free stuffed animal dog, to celebrate the Year of the Dog. Wear red and receive a traditional red envelope filled with prizes and good fortunes. Expect security and limited access to portions of Wade Oval and surrounding areas and streets. Safety is the top concern. This event is open to the community. The Center for International Affairs, First Year Experience, the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Office of the Provost support this annual event. The Lunar New Year is the most important social and economic holiday for billions of people around the world. The holiday is tied to the lunar-solar Chinese calendar and was originally observed as a time to honor household and heavenly deities and ancestors. It’s a special time to bring friends and family together for feasting and festivities in China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Mongolia and other countries all over the world.
