Emilio Blythe, a fourth-year undergraduate student at Case Western Reserve University, received scholarships from the Stoddard Jones 38 Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Cornelius G. Scheid Scholarship Fund in spring 2026.
Blythe began conducting research under Janet L. Gbur, PhD, during his first year at Case School of Engineering as part of a VA RR&D- and Advanced Platform Technology Center-funded program focused on aerosol jet printing of biomedical sensors.
Through this work, he developed materials science skills including microscopy, profilometry and mechanical testing. The experience led him to add a major in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering alongside his major in the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
During his second year, Blythe became the project lead, and the team’s work earned first place at the CWRU Intersections Research Symposium. He also completed a manufacturing engineering co-op at STERIS Endoscopy and a materials engineering co-op with the company this past summer.
