Research indicates spiders use electric fields to take flight
Voice of America: Assistant Professor of Mathematics Longhua Zhao has made computer models of spiders’ ballooning, the process of taking flight with silk strands. She commented on recent research suggesting this is done by using electrostatic fields in the air.
