Medical school applications surge in 2025, including at Case Western Reserve

The number of students applying to medical school across the country—and at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine—went up in 2025. The total number of medical school applicants rose 5.3% according to the Association of American Medical Colleges, while Case Western Reserve experienced a 13% increase in applications last year, breaking 10,000 applications for the first time. 

“This surge in medical school applications reflects the passion and commitment of a new generation eager to make a difference in healthcare,” said Lia Logio, MD, vice dean for medical education at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. “At CWRU, we’re proud to see record numbers of talented applicants who are driven to innovate, serve and lead. Our mission to prepare compassionate, skilled physicians is more important than ever as we help shape the future of medicine.”

With more students choosing medicine as a career—including all health professions, as applications for CWRU’s Physician Assistant and Master’s of Science in Anesthesiology programs also saw increases in 2025—the opportunity to make strides in healthcare grows. And Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine’s role is at the center of it all, preparing the next generation of dedicated, compassionate healthcare workers to make vital advancements and lead the way to a healthier world.
