Cleaning products used to kill germs may come with hidden risks

CNN: Paul Tesar, director of the Institute for Glial Sciences at the School of Medicine, warned that quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) may harm cells responsible for producing myelin, the protective coating around nerve cells. Without healthy myelin, nerve cells can degenerate and die, potentially contributing to neurodegenerative conditions such as multiple sclerosis.
