Medicine's Thomas Steinemann shares benefits of experimental stem-cell transplants for patients with severe corneal injuries

They were blinded in accidents. Now, they can see again. 
National Geographic: Thomas Steinemann, professor of ophthalmology at the School of Medicine, noted that experimental stem-cell transplants are restoring vision in patients with severe corneal injuries. In a small U.S. trial, most patients’ corneas healed and vision improved. Steinemann called the results “remarkable,” noting nearly 90% success with no safety concerns so far and saying the therapy offers new hope for people blinded by traumatic eye injuries
