Music's Daniel Goldmark explains the use of classical music in cartoons

Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra pairs cartoons with live soundtracks in 'Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II' TribLive.com: The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will pair clips of classic cartoon scenes with a live orchestral soundtrack. “Classical music has been a key part of cartoons since pretty much the very beginning of sound cartoons,” said Daniel Goldmark, associate professor of music.
