Emergencies can disrupt campus life quickly, so staying connected is key.
In observance of National Preparedness Month, the Office of Emergency Management encourages members of the Case Western Reserve University community to sign up for RAVE Alerts and use the Emergency Alert System and NOAA Weather Radio for additional updates.
Members of the CWRU community are also encouraged to:
- Know residence hall and classroom evacuation routes; and
- Identify available safe places, such as a friend’s apartment, a family home or a designated shelter.
Preparedness starts at home
Everyday hazards happen in dorms and apartments, and Ready.gov home safety offers quick guidance on preventing burns, falls and other common incidents. If you support younger siblings or children, you may want to familiarize yourself with their school or childcare emergency plans.
It may also be helpful to build a simple personal or family emergency communication plan that reflects your daily life, including:
- Medications;
- Accessibility needs;
- Dietary restrictions;
- Cultural or religious considerations; and
- The needs of roommates or pets.
Then, review it with friends or roommates to know how to reconnect if communication is disrupted.
