Native American Awareness Week

The Indigenous Alliance at Case Western Reserve University and the Office of Multicultural Affairs have a series of events relating to Native Americans planned for Nov. 14-18. This Native American Awareness Week aims to promote the general knowledge of issues facing Native Americans today through open and sustained dialogue and building community among all indigenous groups and allies. Mascot Monday

Monday, Nov. 14 5 to 8 p.m. Tinkham Veale University Center Senior Classroom View the film In Whose Honor? and listen to a panel discussion about Chief Wahoo, use of Native American imagery and all forms of cultural appropriation. Mark Chupp, assistant professor at the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, will moderate. All perspectives are welcome to attend this event.

Project 562 poster exhibit

Tuesday, Nov. 15 Tinkham Veale University Center Project 562 (for the recognized number of tribes) addresses and remedies historical inaccuracies, stereotypical representations and the absence of Native American images and voices in mass media and the national consciousness. The exhibit also will be offered Monday, Nov. 21, at Kelvin Smith Library.

Cultural Day

Wednesday, Nov. 16 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Kelvin Smith Library Oval Learn the history and meaning behind dreamcatchers and make your own. In the case of rain, this event will be held in Tinkham Veale University Center.

Tribal Talk Thursday

Thursday, Nov. 17 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sears Building, Room 450 This event will feature casual conversations regarding what it means to be indigenous in the U.S.

A True Thanksgiving: America's Tradition to Take

Friday, Nov. 18 12:45 to 2 p.m. Tinkham Veale University Center Game Room Learn the true history of Thanksgiving and hear from members of the Indigenous Alliance at CWRU, who will share their stories. Download the Native American Awareness Week schedule.
