Friedland, professor of neurology at the School of Medicine, commented on the Nun Study, a National Institute on Aging project that began in 1990 with 678 school sisters of Notre Dame, and produced findings that continue to guide dementia research today. “So we know from the Nun Study and others that Alzheimer’s disease takes several decades to develop, and the disease has many important effects on all aspects of a person’s life," said Friedland.
