Members of the Case Western Reserve University community are invited to attend tonight’s opening of a new weekly summer concert program, The Beat UPTOWN. Featuring genres ranging from folk to blues to jazz and punk, the open-air series will run from 6 to 9 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 28 at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Mayfield Road.
Tonight’s act is Zoe Muth and the Lost High Rollers, featuring an Austin, Texas-based singer-songwriter known for country, folk and Americana tunes. Formerly from the Pacific Northwest, Muth has been called “Seattle’s Emmylou.” She released her third full-length album, World of Strangers, in May, and is amid a five-month tour of the United States and United Kingdom.
Next Thursday’s performers, meanwhile, are the Bobby Selvaggio Quintet, followed by blues from Thaddeus Anna Greene on July 24. Cleveland’s legendary Beachland Ballroom presents the acts, while deejays from Case Western Reserve’s campus radio station, WRUW 91.1, will serve as on-site emcees. Visitors will experience more than music; they’ll also be able to enjoy food trucks and a series of specials from Uptown establishments. Tonight’s cruising culinary collection includes Wok n Roll, Wholly Frijoles, Touch Supper Truck and Donut Lab Cleveland.
MOCA Cleveland, for example, offers $3 off its regular $8 admission after 5 p.m. on Thursday. Cleveland Yoga hosts happy hour yoga from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Thursdays, charging just $5 to participate. Meanwhile, Wrapz Pita Bar offers $5 wraps all day, and ABC the Tavern provides a full happy hour Thursday evenings. Finally, Anne van H. Boutique welcomes customers to see its new fall collection.
The summer programming is presented collaboratively by Case Western Reserve, the Cleveland Foundation, Toby Devan Lewis, MOCA Cleveland, Cleveland Institute of Art MRN, LTD, and Skylight Financial Group.
