Pixar lamp and Mystique inspire novel approaches to shapeshifting materials
ArsTechnica: Charles Rosenblatt, the Ohio Eminent Scholar and professor of physics, talked about a new “shapeshifting” technique he and collaborators have accomplished using liquid crystal. The team includes a physicist from Tufts University and Andrew Ferris (GRS ’20, physics), a recent graduate who is now a staff physicist at Sandia National Laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Their new research, combined with other shapeshifting advances at Harvard, is considered together to demonstrate how much closer scientists are to “building multifunctional shapeshifting materials for robotics, biotechnology and architectural applications.”
