Professional Development Center to offer several September trainings

The Professional Development Center hosts training sessions for Case Western Reserve University staff and faculty on a wide range of topics. In September, the center will start a new round of courses for those interested in earning the Management Development Certificate or the Emotional Intelligence Certificate as well a training session for new supervisors. Management Development Series

Two sections of the Management Development series will be held in September.

Part I: "Introduction to Your Management Style"

In this introductory session, participants will learn about the DiSC behavioral styles and learn more about how they manage and work with others. By learning DiSC, participants can become more effective and build more productive relationships with coworkers. The session will take place Wednesday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon in Crawford Hall, Room 209. Register online for “Introduction to Your Management Style” by Wednesday, Sept 5.

Part II: "Directing & Delegating Using DiSC"

In this interactive course, participants will learn the importance of delegation and how to adapt delegation to people based on their DiSC styles. The training will be held Wednesday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. to noon in Tinkham Veale University Center, Second Floor Conference Room. Personal & Professional Impact Series

The Personal & Professional Impact Series helps employees learn more about themselves.

Part I: "Identifying Emotions"

This session will take place Thursday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. to noon in Tinkham Veale University Center, First Floor Conference Room. Participants will learn how emotions affect and influence thoughts. Being able to harness that information has shown to be an important element of performance. This session will teach about the role of identifying emotions, why it is critical and practice building skill in this discipline. Register online for “Identifying Emotions” by Thursday, Sept. 13.

Part II: "The Resilience Advantage"

Participants will build upon the materials and techniques learned about in the previous session. The course will explore several new techniques to build resilience and increase the capacity to react, respond and optimize the heart-brain connection to be more intuitive, more agile and more innovative. The session will take place Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 9 a.m. to noon in Crawford Hall, Room 209. Register online for “The Resilience Advantage” by Wednesday, Aug. 29.

"New Supervisor Orientation"

There will also be a day-long session targeted to new supervisors Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Crawford Hall, Room 209. Participants will attend several workshops throughout the day, providing new supervisors with the skills and knowledge necessary to start their new roles successfully. All staff and faculty who have started their first CWRU supervisory role within the last year— including external hires, internal hires and internal promotions—are welcome to attend, whether or not they have previous supervisory experience.
