Brian Gran, a professor in both the law school and the Department of Sociology, was recently awarded a RAPID grant from the Law and Science Program of the National Science Foundation.

The project, "COVID-19 and Derogation of Human Rights," will model and assess socio-legal responses to COVID-19—specifically, emergency measures that derogate states’ human rights commitments. In determining the utility of human rights derogation for preventing COVID-19 transmission, three qualities will be assessed— what rights are derogated, the degree to which those rights are derogated and the duration of derogation.
