Research lecture: Grand challenge to stop family violence

The university community is invited to attend a research lecture on the social work grand challenge to stop family violence. This lecture, hosted by the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, will be held Friday, Dec. 8, from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Community Studies Center, Room 108. About the lecture

Child maltreatment and intimate partner violence overlap, but research and intervention on these topics are quite divergent in terms of methods, beliefs about the importance of family unification, emphasis on family-focused interventions, and assumptions about the most significant contributors to family violence. This discussion will consider these divergences and reflect on the emphasis of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on “connecting the dots” between types of family violence. The lecture will explore ways that these largely separate areas of research and intervention might better align for greater impact.
