Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) selected SAGES fellow Dave Lucas as its inaugural William N. Skirball Writers’ Center writer-in-residence.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dave Lucas as the inaugural writer-in-residence at our William N. Skirball Writers’ Center,” said Sari Feldman, executive director of CCPL. “Dave brings a tremendous passion for teaching and exploring the written word to our center. We look forward to working with him to deepen the library’s relationship with the local writing community, and expand our offerings of writing workshops and learning opportunities for aspiring and experienced writers throughout the county.”
Lucas’s first book of poems, Weather (Georgia, 2011), received the 2012 Ohioana Book Award for Poetry. The same year, Rita Dove named him as one of 13 “young poets to watch” for a feature on the Bill Moyers & Co. website. He has been awarded a Discovery/The Nation Prize, a Creative Workforce Fellowship from the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture and a 2016 Cleveland Arts Prize.
He is a co-founder of the Brews + Prose reading series at Market Garden Brewery. He also teaches at the James Madison University Creative Writing Conference, the John Carroll Young Writers Workshop and the Cleveland Clinic Program in Medical Humanities.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Dave Lucas studied literature and poetry at John Carroll University (BA ‘02), the University of Virginia (MFA ‘04) and the University of Michigan (PhD ‘14).
The William N. Skirball Writers’ Center is housed in CCPL’s South Euclid-Lyndhurst branch. The center offers a quiet, dedicated space where writers can work on their craft. It has a special collection of books and magazines on writing, free Wi-Fi access and meeting room access.
