Schubert Center for Child Studies to hold talk on suicide prevention in children March 22

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people aged 5 to 19 years in the United States. The Schubert Center for Child Studies will host Jeff Bridge, principal investigator at the Center for Innovation in Pediatric Practice at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, for a talk on the topic Tuesday, March 22, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Tinkham Veale University Center, ballroom A. In a talk titled "Suicide in Children and Adolescents: Challenges and Priorities for Intervention,” Bridge will discuss the changing epidemiology of suicide among young people in the U.S. and Ohio, including the increasing rates among boys of color. He also will address the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention’s research strategy for reducing national suicide rates by 40 percent in the next 10 years, along with priorities and challenges for suicide prevention research in young people. The event also will feature two discussants:

• Cheryl Holton, program director/ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Garrett Lee Smith Grant Project director at the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation; and
• Rick Oliver, director of crisis and trauma services at Frontline Services.
