Are you ‘triggered’ or just upset? 

The New York Times: Lisa Damour, senior advisor to the Schubert Center for Child Studies and clinical instructor in the Department of Psychological Sciences, said trauma is an overwhelming event that exceeds a person’s ability to cope. She explained that triggers are cues—such as smells, sounds or places—that can cause trauma survivors to relive traumatic events through flashbacks, and are often addressed through exposure therapy.
