Screening—Paywall: The Business of Scholarship

In celebration of Open Access Week 2018, Kelvin Smith Library will host a screening of Paywall: The Business of Scholarship. The event will take place Thursday, Oct. 25, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Kelvin Smith Library, Room LL06 B and C. Light refreshments will be served. Register to attend the screening.

About the film

The documentary focuses on the importance of open access. It questions the rationale behind the $25.2 billion that flows annually into for-profit academic publishers, examines the 35 to 40 percent profit-margin associated with the top academic publisher Elsevier and looks at how that profit-margin is sometimes greater than some of the most profitable tech companies like Apple, Facebook and Google.
