A research team led by Dr. Elliane Irani at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing is currently recruiting African American family caregivers to see if a sleep health program can improve their sleep and well-being.

Eligible volunteers must:
– Be 18 years of age or older,
– Self-identify as Black or African American,
– Have been caring for an adult family member or friend for more than 6 months, and
– Live with the care recipient.

If you meet these criteria, please consider reaching out to the research team to learn more about the study. You can contact us via phone at 216.368.0437 or via email at familycaregiverstudy@case.edu.

If you qualify for this study and agree to participate, you will be in the study for 14 weeks and will attend 2 study visits. At the end of Visit 1, participants are assigned to one of two study groups. Participants in the control group will be monitored by study staff and will receive a summary of their sleep assessment and sleep recommendations at the end of the study period. Participants in the intervention group will participate in 4 sessions and two telephone calls. The sessions will take place every other week via Zoom and will last approximately 45 minutes. The telephone calls will take place every other week and will last 15 minutes each. Regardless of your group assignment, you will be asked to attend two study visits.

Visit 1 will take place in-person at a convenient location and will last approximately 60 minutes. We will ask you to complete a survey about yourself and your health. We will also ask you to wear a wrist device that looks like a watch to track your sleep activity. You will wear the device and complete a diary twice a day for 7 days.

Visit 2 will take place remotely using Zoom and will last approximately 45 minutes. It will be scheduled at the end of the study period. The same procedures performed at visit 1 will be repeated at Visit 2.

Participants will receive compensation for their time.

If you are not eligible to participate but know someone who might be, please feel free to share this information.
