The SENCER Center for Innovation–Great Lakes at Case Western Reserve University will host a conference, “Best Practices Linking STEM Education and Great Lakes Stewardship,” from March 14 to 16.
The conference will promote incorporation of Great Lakes regional stewardship concerns into undergraduate science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) courses using the SENCER (Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities) and GLISTEN (Great Lakes Innovative Stewardship through Education Network) models of learning through civic engagement.
Topics will include:
- Sharing curriculum initiatives developed during the GLISTEN program or other environmental service-learning initiatives from the perspectives of faculty, student, and community partners,
- Exploring opportunities to extend these experiences to STEM education using informal science education venues, and
- Exploring opportunities for undergraduates to extend the model into K-12 courses through expanded learning communities.
