Staff Spotlight: Meet Shae Maresco
Story by: Kayla Kingston
What is your title?
Assistant Director of Enrollment Management and Strategic Initiatives
How long have you worked at CWRU?
Just over two years! I celebrated my anniversary on Nov. 6.
What does a typical day in your role look like?
Is there such a thing as a typical day when you work in higher education? Haha! In my role, I partner with several of the School of Medicine graduate programs to assist with recruitment and retention efforts. On any given day, I may be off-campus at a career fair or conference speaking face-to-face with prospective students about CWRU, managing inquiries and applications for the programs, scheduling and running recruitment events, or creating content for program websites and social media accounts. Another big part of my role is to manage the logistics of the off-campus recruitment opportunities for our team and serve as the liaison between the event organizers and the CWRU representative(s) who will be in attendance.
What drew you to CWRU School of Medicine?
In my previous role, I served as a Graduate and Professional Studies Admission Counselor for my alma mater, Baldwin Wallace University. While I enjoyed what I was doing, I wanted to become more involved with strategy and growth plans for an organization.
When I came across the job posting for my role, it checked all the boxes of the things that I loved in my current role, and the areas I really wanted to become more involved with! Having grown up in Northeast Ohio, I always associated CWRU with a fantastic medical school. So, of course being able to work in a position aligned with my interests, at a prestigious institution, really made it an offer I could not refuse.
What do you enjoy most about working here?
Being able to utilize my strengths and explore my interests. I am fortunate that in my role, my ideas are acknowledged and I am encouraged to explore them further. I feel like I am being developed not only as a member of my team and in my current role, but holistically as a professional.
What are some hobbies you have outside of work?
I enjoy pilates and yoga—balanced out with a good binge of whatever show I am currently watching (Dawson’s Creek at the moment). I am a big reader, so I enjoy curling up with a book and browsing a bookstore (Loganberry Books is one of my favorites!). My husband and I enjoy traveling together and are currently planning a trip to France for our five-year anniversary. I also like spending time with my friends, my new baby niece, and my dog (Kali the Coonhound)!
