Take a course to explore statistical simulations in the fall
Students are invited to enroll in PQHS 592 Special Topics: Explorations with Statistical Simulations this fall. Learners will design and perform statistical simulations.
Focus:
- to identify data generating mechanism of a variety of data structures,
- to assess the effect of key data features and simulation’s objective on outputs under efficient experimental design,
- to enhance application of key statistical concepts.
Two parts: independent random variables, dependent random variables (e.g. clusters, time series, spatial, networks). We will use both frequentist and Bayesian approaches.
Evaluation will be based on class work, homework (e.g. abstract writing), and a term project. Some proficiency in at least one statistical programming language such as R, SAS, Python is necessary.
Pre-requisites: PQHS 413 or 414, PQHS 431 (or equivalent)
This 3 credit class will be offered on Fridays from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm during the fall semester.
