Third International Trade Law Fall Update

The Frederick K. Cox International Law Center will host the Third International Trade Law Fall Update today (Oct. 26) from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the School of Law’s Moot Court Room (A59). The event is a practitioner-focused conference on U.S. customs and international trade law and policy. It is themed “From Global to Local: A Practice-Oriented Update on Trade Policy, Implementation and Litigation.”

About the conference

This conference will focus on recent trade policy developments and will determine how they have affected and might affect the planning and practice of trade and customs law. The Hon. Claire R. Kelly, judge of the U.S. Court of International Trade, will appear in a roundtable discussion with Juscelino F. Colares, the Schott-van den Eynden Professor of Business Law. There also will be two panels featuring a mix of trade and customs counsel and officials from Washington, D.C., New York City Chicago and Los Angeles. The first panel will address the "State of the Trade World," focusing on trade policy, implementation and litigation developments. The second panel will focus on daily practice and customs law for domestic manufacturers and importers alike. The panel will address duty drawback reforms, rules of origin and other emerging customs issues. An alumni panel also will convene in the afternoon to answer student questions regarding clerkship and career opportunities in international trade law. The Hon. Leo M. Gordon, judge of the U.S. Court of International Trade, will provide closing remarks. The event is co-sponsored by the American Society of International Law, Customs and International Trade Bar Association, Grunfeld Desiderio Lebowitz Silverman & Klestadt LLP and the Greater Cleveland International Lawyers Group.
