Two CWRU representatives will speak at STEM Gender Equality Congress

Two representatives of Case Western Reserve University are among the list of distinguished guest speakers at the upcoming STEM Gender Equality Congress (SGEC), a two-day conference hosted annually by Science Impact Ltd., based in England. The 2017 SGEC is June 8-9 in Berlin. Speakers include:

• Lynn Singer, deputy provost and vice president for Academic Affairs and a professor of epidemiology and biostatistics, pediatrics, psychiatry and psychology at the School of Medicine; and
• Diana Bilmoria, the KeyBank Professor and chair of the Department of Organizational Behavior at the Weatherhead School of Management.

They will present “Achieving STEM Gender Equity through University Culture Transformation: Insights from the IDEAL and IDEAL-N Projects” June 8. Singer and Bilimoria will discuss their National Science Foundation grants, including their current IDEAL-N grants, which bring together 10 research universities in Ohio and Pennsylvania to create a community of academic leaders invested in gender-equity transformation in their universities and the enhanced recruitment, advancement, leadership and retention of women faculty in STEM disciplines. The event attracts leading researchers, policymakers, equality staff, the private sector, academic staff and government representatives to learn and collaborate to achieve greater gender equality in STEM. Each year, SGEC offers case studies, important policy developments and an opportunity to network with other delegates facing similar challenges to balance gender equality in STEM globally.
