A unique Greek experience with exponential potential
Information from the Greek Life Office for Parents and Families
CWRU’s Greek Life is a unique Greek experience with exponential potential. We emphasize the ability for each potential new member to discover a sorority/fraternity that will celebrate their unique contributions to the chapter and help them further grow towards the best version of themselves through the lens of our four pillars: Citizenship, Leadership, Ritual and Scholarship.
As your student navigates the process of joining one of our sororities/fraternities, here are a few tips on how to best support your student through this experience.
- Encourage exploration and learning
- Each organization has its own personality, values, philanthropic partner and other attributes. Encourage your student to ask questions and be open-minded about new experiences.
- Open communication and discussion
- Help them clarify and describe their goals; many organizations seek new members who are as ready to invest in the chapter as the chapter is to invest in them.
- Trust the process and support their experience
- As an important sounding board you can provide emotional, psychological or financial support.
- Continue the conversation after they join
- Once your student joins a sorority/fraternity, continue learning about their ongoing experience by asking questions.
First year students are eligible to join a fraternity/sorority during their first semester, though recruitment for most organizations occurs each spring and fall semester. For more details, visit our website.
