Learn side-by-side with peers around the world by taking a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) taught by Case Western Reserve University's world-renowned faculty. In partnership with Coursera, we offer MOOCs in leadership, entrepreneurialism, international law, sports law, healthcare quality improvement, and a project-based MOOC in designing your personal weight loss plan. In addition, we offer a four-course specialization that culminates in a capstone project in Inspired Leadership.
Inspired Leadership Specialization
In this specialization you will learn the power of asking questions to become a more inclusive and self-confident leader, and how to effectively coach others toward sustained, desired change, learning or increased motivation in life and work. The following courses can be taken individually or all together as the Inspired Leadership Specialization.
Emotional intelligence, hope, mindfulness, and compassion help a person reverse the damage of chronic stress and build great leadership relationships. Based on decades of research into emotional intelligence competencies and longitudinal studies of their development, this course examines resonance and developing "resonant leadership" capability and understand the theory, research, and experience of the the Positive Emotional Attractor that is an essential beginning to sustained, desired change for individuals, teams, organizations, and communities.
This course aims to inspire and empower women and men across the world to engage in purposeful career development and take on leadership for important causes - to lead change with more conviction and confidence - and improve our workplaces and communities for all. The course will help you increase self-knowledge about your own values and vision, as well as enhance your capabilities as a leader, manager, and team contributor.
Coaching can inspire and motivate people to learn, change, and be effective leaders, among other roles in life. Although most attempts are “coaching for compliance” (coaching someone to your wishes or expectations), decades of behavioral and neuroscience research show us that “coaching with compassion” (coaching someone to their dreams and desires) is more effective.
Leading Positive Change through Appreciative Inquiry is a course dedicated to advancing our understanding and skill in leading strength-based change and on how to create, foster and manage organizations in which people thrive and perform at their best.
We have designed this capstone so that it would be the third iteration of working with the ideas and experiences about effective leadership and inspiring its development in others. In this MOOC, you will apply concepts from the four other MOOCs in this specialization (the four MOOCs listed above). You will be reviewing and revising your analysis of the experiences as the Capstone project to show evidence that you can Be a Leader and help another Develop as a Leader.
These courses are not offered as part of a Specialization and can be taken individually.
The path for entrepreneurs to grow their companies outside of well-developed entrepreneurial ecosystems like Silicon Valley is challenging: most markets around the world do not look like Silicon Valley. In transitioning markets, such as Northeast Ohio, government officials, donors, and business leaders are experimenting with creative approaches to support the growth of entrepreneurs. During this course, we will hear from entrepreneurs and learn how they engaged with resources available through various programs and intermediary organizations.
Losing weight and keeping it off requires planning and goal-setting; crash diets or fad diets are ineffective and can be dangerous. This course provides evidence-based information for planning a weight loss program that is safe and effective. You will learn the framework and essential components for an evidence-based weight loss program, including how to establish realistic goals for weight loss, exercise and maximizing the chances of keeping off the weight.
From the Nuremberg trial to the case against Saddam Hussein, from the prosecution of Al-Qaeda terrorists to the trial of Somali pirates – no area of law is as important to world peace and security as international criminal law. Taught by one of the world’s leading experts in the field, this course will educate students about the fundamentals of international criminal law and policy. We will explore the contours of international crimes such as genocide, war crimes, terrorism, and piracy.
This course will provide you with the skills necessary to guide an athlete through the difficult decisions that affect their income, public image and career. Walking through the four stages of an athlete's career, we will provide a broad scope of the landscape of amateur and professional sports so that you can avoid the pitfalls and traps that so many have fallen into in the past. We will show you how to manage the career of any professional athlete who might seek your guidance at any stage of his or her professional career.
The objective of this course is to empower you, the working healthcare professional, to improve your knowledge and skills in the science of quality improvement so that you can take action in your own clinical setting to improve the quality of care for your patients and their families. You will learn about powerful tools to add to your QI ‘toolbox’ and apply these tools to the implementation of a QI project.
