Important dates for arrival and beyond | CWRU in Madrid students

As you prepare for an exciting semester abroad at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M), we want to make sure you feel confident and ready for what’s ahead. Below are the key dates and deadlines to keep in mind as you plan your arrival, settle in, and start the academic year.

Important Fall 2025 dates

  • Arrival. Plan to arrive in Madrid, Spain before Sunday, August 31. 
  • CWRU in Madrid Orientation: Our in-person orientation for all CWRU in Madrid students runs Monday, September 1 through Thursday, September 4. This orientation is your chance to meet fellow students, get to know Madrid and prepare for academic life at UC3M.
  • UC3M Welcome Days (Mandatory): UC3M will host its official “Welcome Days” for all incoming study abroad and international students on Friday, September 5. Attendance is required—this event is an important part of your onboarding and introduction to the UC3M community.
  • First day of classes: UC3M classes begin on Monday, September 8.
  • Advising for Spring 2026: October will include advising sessions to help plan your academic path. Dates will be shared soon.

UC3M academic calendar highlights

UC3M follows a calendar common across European universities:

  • Fall semester: Begins in early September and runs through December.
  • Exams: Typically held in January, but exchange students can take exams in December, allowing you to return home before the holidays.

Departure from Spain

The CWRU in Madrid program officially ends on Friday, December 19. Housing will remain available until Saturday, December 20 for those needing an extra day before departure.

Spring arrival at Case Western Reserve University

Move-in day in Cleveland is Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Following move-in, you’ll participate in Discover Days, CWRU’s orientation program for new and returning students. Keep an eye on your CWRU email this fall for more details.
