First-year students: Complete your housing application

Choosing first-year housing at CWRU is an easy process. The housing application goes live on your Roadmap on Thursday, May 7, at 7 p.m. Eastern. You need to complete the housing application or submit a Housing Release Request to commute from home, if eligible. Students are eligible to commute from home only if they plan to live at their parents' permanent home within 40 miles of campus.

Overview of the housing application

  • Housing application: This is the official application that indicates that you will be living on campus. On this application, you will choose your meal plan option, indicate roommate and building preferences, and agree to the terms and conditions of the Residence Hall Agreement. The application deadline for incoming first-year students is June 5.
  • Vaccination status statement: Ohio Revised Code section 1713.55 requires that every student submit a statement on their vaccination status for meningitis and hepatitis B before they can live on campus. The form must be submitted online before you can continue working on the housing application.
  • Lifestyle characteristics: These four questions about your lifestyle are here to help you find a compatible roommate or assist us in matching you with a student who shares similar answers.
  • Gender-Inclusive Housing (GIH): The Gender-Inclusive Housing program is an option that allows students to live in housing not based on residents’ sex. For more information, please visit our website regarding Gender-Inclusive Housing.

First-year room preferences

Almost all first-year students live in a double room with a roommate in one of our first-year communities. You will be asked to list each community in priority order. You can also list your preference for a single or double room. Single rooms are very limited, so students should expect to be placed in a double room. You can also list a preferred roommate.

Searching for a roommate: Once you complete your housing application, you can search for a roommate through our online roommate matching system on MyHousing. You search for roommates by lifestyle characteristics or through suggestions based on your answers to the lifestyle characteristics questions. Create a group, and then invite your roommate to join it. They will need to confirm the invitation. Once your group is complete, you can submit your group for the room assignment process. This must be completed by July 1 to be placed in a room with your selected roommate.

It is not necessary to choose a roommate. If you don’t choose a roommate, you will be placed with another student.

Medical accommodations: If you have a medical condition that you feel requires a specific medical accommodation, please contact Disability Resources to discuss what medical documentation you are required to provide to their office. Disability Resources informs our office of all approved medical accommodations, and we will note all students’ needs in our database. If a student is given an accommodation for a single room, we will assign the student before other room assignments are made. For more information, please visit the website about Medical Accommodations.

Fall move-in: New students will move in either Saturday, August 15, or Sunday, August 16. On the housing application, you will be asked to indicate which day you’d prefer to move in. You’ll be assigned a move-in day and timeslot based on this preference, to help plan for your travel to CWRU. Move-in day preferences can be adjusted through July 1.
