The majority of Case Western Reserve University students abroad experience no more risk than any student studying on the CWRU campus in Cleveland. However, we do provide some additional support for CWRU in Madrid Students.
Health insurance
All CWRU in Madrid students are required to purchase Spain-specific health insurance through Innoinsure via this link. Benefits include:
- Full, comprehensive, up-front coverage with an accompanying app to make finding providers easy
- English-speaking liaisons available 24/7
- Over 43,000 doctors and 1,200 medical centers in-network in Spain
- Coverage for 20 mental health sessions with a psychiatrist per year
Health insurance MUST be purchased for the duration of your student visa (August 1, 2025 through January 31, 2026). If you have already purchased Asisa health insurance through Innoinsure and need to adjust your coverage start and end dates to cover the entirety of the visa, contact Ciaran O’Toole (ciaran.otoole@innoinsure.com) to request a payment link to purchase the additional insurance to cover the entirety of those dates. Innoinsure will provide you with an updated Certificate of Insurance to cover the Spanish government’s updated visa requirements. Include all health insurance documents with your visa application.
TalkNow mental health abroad
CWRU offers all students access to TalkNow, a mental health service to support students. Students must download the app while still in the United States in order to utilize this service.
Health and safety education
Join the June 11 Health & Safety webinar to learn more about in-country and CWRU resources, details of CWRU’s insurance offerings, U.S. government resources, and case studies on dealing with emergencies. In addition, all students will receive an emergency card with important numbers to call and instructions to follow in the event of an emergency.
