Parents and families—Learn about on-campus support for students

There are many people at Case Western Reserve who are invested in your student’s success at CWRU.

“Your student is given so many resources and opportunities to succeed just by stepping foot on this campus. They are supported by a whole team of people who just want them to grow as a person and as a student. They will figure it out! Encourage them to take a leap into it, make the most of the education they have earned, have fun, and not be afraid to ask for help when they want it!”
—Claire, class of 2027

One challenge for students is taking the first step and asking for assistance when needed. Students should reach out to their support system, at the university and at home, when they are confronted with an obstacle or are struggling with a difficult situation. When your student expresses stress or worries to you, give advice and support! It is tempting to reach out on behalf of your student when you notice they are struggling; however, it is important that students learn to do this on their own. For example, if your student needs help with a course, consider coaching them through the process of reaching out to their professor or finding tutoring on campus.

To prepare for these conversations, you can learn more about different support resources on campus through the university website and our New Student Transition Guide.

“Do research on Case Western Reserve to learn about the different on-campus services and other amenities (meal plans, housing, etc.). Firstly, you will be able to communicate with your student more easily about campus life, and secondly, it will make you feel better about leaving your student at Case Western Reserve to live independently.” —Aaron, class of 2026
