Parents and Families: We’re excited to welcome you, too!

The first year of college is a time of growth, change and new experiences. Students are learning to manage more independence and responsibility, navigate new and evolving relationships, and, for many, live away from home for the first time. They’re also stepping into a new level of academic expectations.

For families, this transition can come with its own learning curve. You may be figuring out unfamiliar systems, timelines and expectations alongside your student. That’s a meaningful role, and it can also feel like a lot to take in.

As your student builds confidence and independence, your support continues to matter. It may just look a little different than before.

Through the CWRU 101 section of the Orientation Newsletter, we aim to offer clear, practical guidance to help you feel informed and prepared. We’ll share tips on making the most of the time before classes begin, supporting your student’s mental and physical well-being, and understanding what to expect during the transition to college. You’ll also hear advice and perspectives from current Case Western Reserve University students and families, along with simple ideas—such as thoughtful care packages—to help you stay connected.

Our goal is to make this process feel more understandable, manageable and supportive—for both you and your student.
