The first year of college can be difficult for students. They are going through a period of growth and change. Students have to navigate an increase in autonomy and responsibility, new and changing relationships, and potentially living away from home for the first time. In addition to these changes, the students are beginning a new level of academic coursework.
Learning to support your new college student can be an adjustment for you as well. Through the MORE TO KNOW section of the Orientation Newsletter, we hope to provide parents and family members with tools and suggestions on how to prepare both your student and yourselves for the fall. We will share information on a variety of topics such as taking advantage of the time before classes begin, helping your student develop healthy mental and physical habits, advice from current Case Western Reserve students and parents, and ideas for care packages.
Advice from a CWRU Student
“I know that this is a really difficult time for families, but my best advice would be to just trust the process. Many, many people have gone through exactly the same thing that you are going through, and they have all had a great time during orientation and their first year at CWRU!” —Cade, Orientation Leader (OL), Class of 2027
