To Case Western Reserve University Faculty, Staff and Postdocs,
To acknowledge your exceptional work and dedication to advancing Case Western Reserve University, I am pleased to announce that winter recess (originally scheduled Dec. 24–Jan. 1) will be extended by an additional day. Winter recess now will take place Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, through Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025—a one-time extension based on this year’s calendar that left Monday alone in a work week.
We are happy to provide this benefit as part of a broader employee appreciation program, which includes initiatives such as CWRU Take Two in the summer and Employee Appreciation Day each March. These are just a few of the ways that we aim to show our employees how much value they provide to our institution, no matter their roles.
Based on the nature of duties and/or unexpected developments, some offices will need to remain open Dec. 23, 26, 27 and/or 30. Non-exempt staff who work on campus during winter recess will be paid time and one-half and will receive equivalent paid time off on a later date.
If operational demands require exempt employees to be present on campus for a significant amount of time, the possibility of alternative time off will be determined by their supervisors.
In addition, my wife, Karen, and I look forward to welcoming you to Harcourt House for our annual Winter Open House, which takes place this year in December. Please keep an eye on The Daily for additional information.
Again, please know that we appreciate all that you do for the university. Your efforts help propel our institution to be a leader in research and education.
Sincerely,
Eric W. Kaler
