Support During a Time of Conflict: Oct. 9, 2023

To the Case Western Reserve University Community,

It is with great sadness that I write to offer my condolences to all those affected by the tragic loss of life and the human suffering resulting from the violence occurring in Israel and Gaza. I know many of us have friends and family there, and the situation is truly heart breaking. This region has faced conflict for many years, and I recognize that many within our community have deeply held opinions and viewpoints about its history and the origin of the current conflict, but this violence will not advance the goal of peace.

At CWRU, we stand together to denounce violence and hate in all forms. We urge all members of our campus community to engage in civil discourse, and to demonstrate compassion toward each other as we respectfully consider the things that may divide us. The university remains committed to providing a safe, welcoming and inclusive community for all.

For those in need of support, please do not hesitate to reach out to CWRU’s free counseling services at any time, day or night. Students can reach University Counseling Services at 216.368.5872 or online at CWRUCare; faculty and staff counseling services are available through IMPACT Solutions, the university’s Employee Assistance Provider, at 800.227.6007 or myimpactsolution.com

Finally, to the best of our knowledge, the university has confirmed there are no CWRU faculty, staff or students in the region.

Together we can hope that peace will prevail.
