Today's U.S. Supreme Court Decision

To the Case Western Reserve University Community:

After nearly 50 years, abortion is no longer a federal constitutional right.

Today’s U.S. Supreme Court reversal of the 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade has stirred strong emotion among so many of us.

At this moment, we want to emphasize that Case Western Reserve is dedicated to providing all members of our community the support and information they need. We also are committed to the health and well-being of every member of our community—today and every day.

Staff members at University Health & Counseling Services are available for students who want to discuss the decision, including in-person and telehealth counseling appointments; students also can find information about relevant health services on this page. Staff and faculty can contact IMPACT Solutions, or schedule an appointment with the university’s mental health support specialist.

Our university also maintains its steadfast commitment to supporting freedom of expression, so long as such activities do not infringe on others’ safety or the institution’s operations.

With this ruling, each state will determine whether abortion will be legal within its borders. We will closely follow developments within and beyond Ohio, and update you regarding those that may affect students, faculty and staff, including access to reproductive health services. We also are reviewing potential implications for university policies, protocols and curricula—especially those involving our health sciences students.

We appreciate the enormity of this decision, as well as the uncertainty regarding its immediate and longer-term effects. It is in such moments that we are especially grateful for the community that is Case Western Reserve. Thank you for making it such a special and supportive place.
