Many students choose to participate in research away from the CWRU campus during the summer break, whether in their hometown or in other locations across the United States. We highly encourage and support such pursuits, which enable students to obtain valuable experience as well as earning academic credit and/or compensation. Actually, the Undergraduate Research Office recommends that you open as many doors as possible for yourself. Apply to several programs on- and off-campus. It is acceptable for you to turn us down.
When researching off-campus opportunities, do not limit yourself only to programs that appear most closely related to your major–many programs have opportunities for students from different disciplines. For example, many STEM programs have openings for non-STEM students. As you search for research positions, browse ALL sections, including the General Databases and Other Universities’ Lists section. Remember that the Undergraduate Research Office is here to help advise you about programs.
