Major and research focus:
Brooks is a CWRU Junior and currently is majoring in biochemistry. Her Summer 2024 research was entitled: “Dissecting the role of T-cells in a TNF-mediated model of Crohn's Disease-like ileitis.”
Research mentors and funding source:
Brook’s research mentors were as follows:
Fabio Cominelli, MD, PhD, CWRU and Co-mentor: Dr. Bianca Islam, MD, PhD, School of Medicine, Department of Biology
Biggest learning moment while doing research:
About her research experience, Brooks had this to say, “I have gained a lot of useful lab skills, and I am learning how to be a scientist.” Some of the ways in which Brooks is advancing her knowledge this summer has been by learning about the formulation of research questions and pretend scenarios on how to create an experimental (research) design.
Service and Leadership at CWRU:
Brooks is involved in various activities on campus. She participated in numerous pre-med activities including engagement with the Cleveland Clinic. In addition, Brooks is also a CWRU tour guide, a peer tutor, and is on the CWRU dance team.
Aspirations for the future:
Brooks plans to continue your research throughout the academic year and allow her scientific interests to take her as far as possible!
