On Tuesday April 9, 2019 Business Volunteers Unlimited (BVU), an organization that connects for-profit companies with nonprofits needing volunteers here in the Northeast Ohio region, hosted their annual Business Summit at the Tinkham Veale University Center at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). The Summit titled “Using the United Nations SDGs as a Framework for Corporate Community Engagement” brought together business leaders from all over Northeast Ohio to engage in a day of speakers and discussions. The questions were designed to encourage participants to think about how they could move forward and incorporate the UN Global Goals into their business practices.
The Fowler Center was honored to be a partner sponsor for the event and was represented by Senior Director Katherine Gullett, AIM2Flourish Manager Megan Buchter, and MBA student Annie Morino. Former AIM2Flourish Director, Claire Sommer, gave a compelling speech introducing participants to the Global Goals and providing examples of how businesses around the world are already striving to meet these Goals by 2030. Julie Edgar, Corporate Vice President, Innovation and Chief Sustainability Officer for Lubrizol spoke during the lunch hour about Lubrizol’s participation in mapping and growing their sustainability efforts and relating them back to the Global Goals.
The team attending from Hyland Software, took a picture with one of our AIM2Flourish story posters and story author, Katherine Gullett to celebrate the ways in which their company was working to achieve Global Goal 5: Gender Equality and Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth through their programs focused on getting more women into STEM career paths.
Thank you to BVU for hosting such an engaging event about the UN Global Goals.
