What are you up to?
I am at EdgePoint as a M&A investment banking associate in the health care group, where my role is focused in the development of marketing materials and financial models with the senior team. I coordinate due diligence and data requests, perform financial analysis, market and buyer research, and transaction documentation support.
How did you find this job?
I found this job just by searching through LinkedIn. With some companies this just leads you to the HR portal, but in my circumstance, they had a direct contact who was part of the team to reach. From there they reviewed my resume and were shortly doing interviews afterward. It definitely helped being a Case Western Reserve student, as there are a handful of Case Western Reserve grads who are part of the firm.
I am most excited to learn more about the M&A market and become an expert on valuations and pitching to clients and potential buyers.
Although the Career Management Office did not help me find this position, they were very helpful throughout my time at Weatherhead connecting me with and introducing me to various alumni throughout organizations I had interest in, as well as helping me finalize resumes and prep for potential interviews.
What is something you learned during your time at Weatherhead that you’ve been able to use in your current role?
My M&A class as well as participating in the ACG Cup Competition were two key things that helped me prepare for my current role. The class and competition are aimed to replicate the sell side investment banking pitch process and were extremely helpful in teaching me more about the industry. This class was taught by Professor Scott Fine and he was also our team's ACG advisor for the competition. He is a very knowledgeable professor in this area in particular and was very helpful throughout my two years at Weatherhead.
What advice would you offer to any current MBA students at Weatherhead?
I think it's important to focus on building relationships with your classmates and faculty. One of Weatherhead’s strengths is its professors and alumni network, so staying involved and being social is important.
What do you love most about Weatherhead?
What I love most about Weatherhead is the willingness of everyone at the university to help you achieve what you are looking for. As a smaller school you get faculty, advisors and students who are all very genuine and willing to help when needed. I am not sure if you get this same type of camaraderie at larger schools! I also love it's location in Cleveland, Ohio, which I view as one of the most underrated cities in America!
