On November 8, alumna Sherry Neubert, EMBA ‘07, vice president and chief information officer at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, was the keynote speaker at the Biz Analytics Speaker Series, hosted by the MSM-Business Analytics department.

Neubert shared how Goodyear is using digitization and analytics to build an “intelligent enterprise.” She defined the term as “not just another industry buzzword,” but as a paradigm shift. Neubert explained, “The intelligent enterprise is a  concept that the way we work should be as seamless, if not more seamless, than the way we live.” Goodyear is organizing to meet its global IT priorities through the lens of the intelligent enterprise framework at all levels: tactical (making recommendations on how to tackle problems); operational (automating the handling of simple and repetitive tasks); and strategic (uncover patterns and insights to influence decision making).

Neubert is helping Goodyear realize this transition through digital dexterity, the AHEAD Model, and an open innovation and talent ecosystems. To help achieve this, Goodyear has partnered with Weatherhead’s Masters of Business Analytics Program to invigorate their talent pool through the school’s Reverse-Internship program. Traditional internships are rotational across, or agnostic to, application domains. Companies select students based on foundational skills and abilities, and subsequently place them in function based on internal assignment, or rotate the individual across multiple application areas. A reverse-internship is an alternative approach that begins with corporate sponsors pitching project ideas to students. Students then self-select the projects that best align with their passions and skills. Finally, the corporate leads are presented with a narrowed list of resumes to interview and ultimately select their optimal intern(s).

Jagdip Singh, AT&T Professor of Marketing and Co-Director of MSM-Business Analytics Program and Professor of Design & Innovation, stated, “We invite our industry partners and alumni to participate in Weatherhead’s Reverse-Internship program to optimize fit and promote win-win outcomes, for the student and for the organization."

Jeffrey Chenevey, Director of IT & Digital Services at Vitamix, was one of 31 industry leaders from 16 different companies to attend the Biz Analytics Speaker Series. He is looking to take the next step to partner with Weatherhead’s graduate business analytics students. “I thought the speaker series discussion was great. Having different perspectives, cultures, industries and ages all in the same room was powerful... I look forward to connecting Vitamix to this vibrant group of young thinkers in order to share information and real-life examples for the students to learn from.”
