MA PROGRAM - RESEARCH ETHICS TRACK (RET)


What is It?
It is a scholarly and practical track within the Master’s Program devoted to examining emergent issues in research ethics.

Who Might be Interested?
Those who want to use the specialized knowledge to enhance their primary careers;
Those who wish to pursue research ethics-related work as a primary career--e.g., IRB coordinators, science policy makers, monitors and administrators in Offices of Research Compliance/Research Integrity/Clinical protocols, etc.

What is Involved?
Required courses (see below)
3-credit Research Practicum that includes hands-on experience with:

Office of Research Compliance Privacy Board Meetings for HIPAA
Office of Research Integrity Office of Grants and Management
Office of Technology Transfer Certification in Research Ethics
HIPAA Compliance Officer CREC Continuing Education
CITI Certification in Human Subjects Research Training (all modules)
Annual PRIMR Meeting (Public Responsibility in Medical Research)

Required Courses:
Foundations in Bioethics(12 credits; BETH 401-402)
Research Ethics Core Course
Three 3-credit Departmental Research Ethics Electives, including:
Ethical Issues in Genetics and Genomics (BETH 412)
International Health Research Ethics (BETH 414)
Independent study (BETH 602)
