Ischemic strokes are frequently caused by emboli. Emboli have a propensity to lodge in certain areas. In the right vertebral artery angiogram shown above, the most common locations for emboli in the posterior circulation are shown. PICA = posterior inferior cerebellar artery, PCA = posterior communicating artery.
