FAQs: Application Deferred

Why was my application deferred?

In some cases, we would like to see another semester of academic work, or perhaps you were applying for financial aid and your financial aid application remains incomplete. In most cases, however, we simply want to be able to consider your application in the context of the entire applicant pool.

What can I do to improve my chances of being admitted?

In January, we will ask you to update your application with new information we may not have had when you initially submitted your application. You will need to have your first semester (or first trimester) grades sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admission in order to complete your Regular Decision application.

What are my chances of being admitted under the regular decision plan?

Many strong candidates have been deferred to the Regular Decision application plan. Each year we offer admission to a significant number of deferred candidates. Your application will be considered equally alongside other Regular Decision applicants.

When will I receive notification of a final admission decision from Case Western Reserve?

We will notify all Regular Decision candidates, which includes those students whose Early Action application has been deferred to Regular Decision, on or around March 20 with an updated admission decision.
