Hugh O’Neill 

Virginia and Walter Nord Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures 

Hugh O'Neill's research spans 20th- and 21st-century Caribbean and Irish literatures with a focus on poetry and poetics, their contributions to postcolonial literary theory, and their relations to world literary-systems. O’Neill’s research explores translation, onomastics (names and naming practices), the language politics of literary production, and comparative literary theory.

O’Neill earned their Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Toronto (2024), their master’s in English from the University of Pittsburgh’s program in Critical and Cultural Studies (2012), and their B.A. cum laude in English Language and Literature from John Carroll University (2004).

They are Executive Director of End of the Line Press, a non-profit and independent publisher of writing by gender-expansive authors which published A/An by Mandy Gutmann-Gonzalez, a 2024 Finalist for the Foreword INDIES Prize for Poetry.

Grace Burich

Baker-Nord Graduate Fellow, Department of History 

Grace Burich is a PhD Candidate in History. Her research focuses on American history, particularly Native American history. Her dissertation examines Native American activism in Cleveland, Ohio, from the 1960s through the 2010s. She received her BA in History with a minor in Politics and Government from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Sophie Emberton

Baker-Nord Student Assistant, English Major with a Film Minor

Sophie Emberton is a third-year undergraduate student at Case Western Reserve University. She serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Case Reserve Review, the campus literary and art magazine, and as the Advertising Manager for the CWRU Film Society. In her free time, she knits and crochets many things from blankets and sweaters to mountain goats and geese.

Sebastion Mueller

Baker-Nord Student Assistant, Sociology and Psychology Major with Film and Political Science Minors

Sebastian Mueller is a fourth-year undergraduate student interested in exploring the mechanisms through which economic forces and the media influence public perception of socio-political topics. Outside of school, he enjoys analyzing film and writing poetry and fiction.
