Through the Healthy Smiles Sealant Program, researchers from Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine work to reduce disparities in oral healthcare for underserved children in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District—the second largest school district in Ohio.
The cavity prevention program facilitates temporary clinics at each district elementary school, where predoctoral dental students give routine exams, seal the chewing surfaces of cavity-free teeth with protective coating, and provide referrals as necessary to treat existing cavities.
